Our Technologies

It's easy for a manufacturer to grab "off the shelf" materials and technologies and put them into their hunting gear. Not so for Pnuma. We traveled the globe to find the absolute best technologies to make sure Pnuma hunting jackets, pants, base layers, gloves, and caps exceed your every expectation.

At our best when conditions are at their worst.

The bi-component Porelle® Extreme membrane found in the Pnuma Selkirk Jacket and Pant Hunting System has set a new bar as the finest waterproof, breathable membrane in the industry. The outer PTFE is a hydrophobic, water-hating layer that keeps wetness out, providing a waterproof rating of more than 20,000. The inner PU component is a hydrophilic, water-loving layer, which draws water vapor from your perspiration through the membrane to the outer layer where it evaporates. With a Moisture Vapor Transfer (MVT) rating of 120,000 Pnuma delivers twice the breathability rating of any other hunting apparel. The bottom line on Porelle Extreme? You stay warmer, drier, and more comfortable no matter how extreme conditions get.

The HydroWick™ difference.

HydroWick™ technology is the cornerstone of our IconX hunting base layer. Our proprietary fabric blend with HydroWick is knitted with hollow, porous, hygroscopic fibers. These hollow fibers dramatically improve moisture wicking over traditional fibers. Insulating and cooling properties are significantly increased by trapping or releasing body heat through the air spaces in the fibers. HydroWick fabric features reduced pilling, enhanced stretch, and offers a smooth fabric feel over the athletic design of IconX. It’s a world-class hunting base layer that’s in a class of its own.

The coolest fabric there is.

Coolcore patented cooling technology is the first fabric on the planet to be awarded the Hohenstein Institute’s Innovative Technology Award for cooling. Coolcore’s revolutionary moisture activated fabric uses proprietary and innovative yarn-spun micro-tubing to keep you cool. This incredible fabric wicks sweat away from your skin, then transports it rapidly to accelerate drying. Its unique ability to regulate evaporation works to keep you cooler. Unlike standard wicking treatments, it does this without chemicals, and will not degrade over time. The warmer the environment and the more active you are the more you will perspire. Put sweat to work for you. Stay cool with Coolcore.

Thirteen zones. One goal.

We’ve designed our Pnuma IconX hunting base layer shirts and pants with thirteen unique, high-performance zones – seven in the shirt and six in the pant. Zones are strategically placed to support the most essential muscle groups, promote improved blood circulation, and increase moisture wicking—optimizing your body’s natural performance.

The soft-ribbed zone on the sternum wicks away sweat in early season temperatures and during long hikes, while the zone on the back keeps you dry even when wearing a pack.

Dedicated zones for the abdomen, back, shoulders, triceps, biceps, forearms, hips, quads, and calves ensure muscles are strategically supported, not compressed, so these key muscles perform as efficiently as possible and blood flow stays optimal as your heart rate varies.

Extra wicking zones behind the knees, under the arms, and at the elbow-bend decrease bulk at the joints, while thicker performance zones add padding on knees and elbows. The result: revolutionary performance and unparalleled comfort in a hunting base layer.

Pnuma Merino Wool. The wool you’ll want pulled over you.

Search the world over, as we have, and you will find the very best Merino wool comes from Merino sheep breeds of Australia - the same source of wool for our Pnuma base layer. Merino has natural properties of fine-gauge, long staple length, high lanolin content, high strength-to-weight ratios and elasticity. Plus, Merino Wool is known for its natural odor control and wicking properties that many base layers rely on. At Pnuma, we didn’t think these natural properties were effective enough for the demands of Pnuma base layers. So we took things further to make Pnuma Merino perform even better. SilverStrike™ anti-microbial was added to enhance odor control. Merino wool is the perfect natural solution for next to skin base layers. We made it even better.

3M™ Scotchgard™ DWR. The proof is in how dry you’ll stay.

3M™ Scotchgard™ DWR (Durable Water Repellent) is a finish added to shell fabric to make it water-repellent (hydrophobic), preventing the outer layer of fabric from “wetting out” or becoming saturated with water, which will keep you drier and more comfortable, longer.

Featherless. Fearless.

3M™ Thinsulate™ Featherless Insulation – 700 fill power - gives you the ability to stay out in cold weather no matter where you’re hunting. Lightweight, highly breathable, and extremely warm, featherless insulation is a synthetic, durable, and superior alternative to natural down. Unlike down, 3M™ Thinsulate™ Featherless Insulation in The Insulator Hunting Jacket, Pant, and Vest will retain its loft and keep you warm even when wet.

SilverStrike™ Antimicrobial Technology. Nature’s scent control.

Microbes are living cells like bacteria, fungi and algae that can grow on many materials creating foul odors, discoloration, and formation of mildew and biofilm. Put your gear away wet and you know exactly what we’re talking about. The antimicrobial properties of silver, unlike harsh chemical treatments, have been known for centuries. Applying it to outdoor gear is still a great way to combat odor. SilverStrike advanced antimicrobial fabric technology prevents the formation and growth of bacteria and other odor-causing microbes, keeping garments smelling fresher—and you staying undetected—longer.

Who wouldn’t want their gear to be tenacious?

Our Pnuma Tenacity Hunting Pant features an incredibly durable yet lightweight fabric with an attitude. It uses Dura-Fila® N66, a tightly woven, ripstop nylon that’s stronger, lighter and tougher than nylons found in other hunting apparel. It’s nearly impervious to tears and rugged wear. Hunt hard. Hunt with Tenacity.

Waterproof/Breathable Membrane

Porelle hydrophilic membranes are available in 3 different technology options: polyurethane, TPU and cross-linked membranes. Porelle hydrophilic membranes have a solid structure that physically stops water passing through the membrane. They breathe by absorbing and dissipating sweat through the diffusion of water vapour molecules. The chemical structure of the membrane is made up of hydrophilic (water loving) groups that attract water vapour molecules. Driven by greater heat and water vapour density, the water vapour molecules move from one hydrophilic group to the next (somewhat like stepping stones).
